Ama de casa (but not for loong I hope)

I've been taking Spanish classes over the last month. I still have another 6 more classes before I complete Level uno. Other than going for Spanish class, I've been hitting the gym a lot, about 3-4 times a week. I'm currently obsessed with toning up so I've been going for a lot of yoga and pump classes. I'm a regular gym bunny now! :)

Other than that, I'm not doing much. Am still unemployed and am effectively an ama de casa (that's housewife in Spanish). I'm getting a little sick of not working but because I haven't updated my resume, I can't apply for anything. I'm like the world champion in procrastination!

Today, something snapped and I have finally (FINALLY!!!) opened up my laptop and spent the whole of this morning updating my super-antiquated resume. Well I'm all done. Phew. That's the easy part. Next step is to hit all the recruitment agencies! Hopefully I'll be back in the work force soon. Wish me luck!

The two Kweks.

I wasn't able to spend Mother's Day this year at home with Mom and Grandma and was feeling rather bad about it. To make up for not being around, I sent the 2 lady Kweks bouquets of flowers and a lil' note to tell them that I'm missing them <----thiiissssssss-----> much!

Here's a photo of Mom and Grandma Kwek with one of the bouquets.

Beach Hop.

We were on one of our road trips to Rotorua when we kept passing these hot rod cars and gangs of bikers on their harleys. After a while, our curiousity got the better of us and we decided make a detour and follow these bunch of mean-looking bikers in leather on their big-ass harleys with barrels as exhaustpipes. We followed them to this seaside town called Whangamata (pronounced: Fha-ga-ma-ta). *Shrug* It's Maori. (There's another town called Whakatane which when pronounced sounds like "F***-yer-auntie"! We eventually visited that city too. How can we not with a name like that?!)

Whangamata was having their annual Beach Hop event. Beach Hop is a nostalgic festival that celebrates the best of the 50's and 60's. They have the music, the cars and the people. Bands belted out rock 'n roll ballads while Betty Boop and Elvis strolled down the streets.

And they have these vintage cars and bikes driven from all the different corners of NZ to gather at this annual festival.

Fall in Auckland.

It's fall here in Auckland and the weather is turning. During the day, the weather is brilliant with the temperature in the teens. When the sun is out, everyone is still flocking to the beach, albeit with more clothing on. It's too cold to be strutting around in a teensy weensy bikini. It's a funny sight with everyone lying on the sand and grass along the beach but fully clothed, with their hoodies zipped up, scarves around their necks.

During the nights... brrrrrrr..! It gets coooooolddd (especially for 2 sua-ku Singaporeans who are so used to 30 degrees days and nights.) First thing we did when the weather changed was to go out and buy heaters. We currently have 3 huge oil heaters at home, 1 fan heater and a life-time supply of firewood. Yes we do have a fireplace and the first time we started a fire was a monumental event for both S and I! I'm going to take a photo of us all bundled up during the night and post it online. It's quite hilarious how much clothing we have on at night even indoors.
